Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs

"My favourite colour is shiny"

Fifteen years ago Marc Jacobs became the creative director of the house of Louis Vuitton; his work has since given the house a whole new cool and chic edge. To celebrate the partnership between Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs the Musée des Arts décoritifs held a beautiful exhibition spanning over two floors, one for each of the two innovators. As I took a trip to Paris for my birthday back in the Spring I decided to visit the exhibition, I've been a huge fan of Jacobs' work for the house for a few years now and really wanted to see them for myself! The exhibition opens with two portraits of the two men, one a drawing of Louis Vuitton from the 18 hundreds and a recent Rankin photo of Marc Jacobs. As I stated the exhibit is spread between 2 floors. The first floor focuses on the work of Louis Vuitton and the start of the brand, so we get to see gorgeous gowns from many years ago and also some of the iconic Louis Vuitton trunks.

From the second floor we can then compare how Jacobs has revolutionized the brand and made it what it is today. There are screens upon screens of both still and moving images of Jacobs’ inspiration over the years. This includes images of Barbara Streisand, David Bowie, clips from South Park, Marie Antoinette (2006), The Wizard of Oz, and Mia Farrow to name a few. A large wall is dedicated to the iconic bags quaintly in cake cases. Some of Louis Vuitton's most famous garments were presented in different window displays, some with balloon heads others with animal heads bringing out Jacobs' quirky, fun style. Opposite was a rotating cog with beautiful Louis Vuitton shoes. It’s was a beautiful exhibition perfectly illustrating the past and present of the powerful French house, moreover with the beautiful Parisian setting it couldn't be more perfect

“I’m in a position of being respectful and disrespectful. I want to do something rebellious, and also to CELEBRATE this icon.” –Marc Jacobs

Chloé

Chloé. Attitudes

As I said in my previous post, just yesterday I was fortunate enough to visit the beautiful city of Paris, whilst in Paris I visited the Chloé retrospective at the Palais De Tokyo. Chloé. Attitudes is an exclusive look at the house of Chloé over its 60 years. Featuring signature pieces from each of Chloé’s nine key designers – from the Maison’s progressive founder Gaby Aghion, to its present creative director Clare Waight Keller – the show is neither nostalgic nor chronological. It takes a thematic path through the very best of Chloé’s creativity, pausing at key moments within its history.
The exhibition is curated and designed by renowned exhibition-maker Judith Clark and staged in the newly refurbished galleries of Le Palais de Tokyo. The centre’s exhibition space was expanded from 8,000 to 22,000 square metres in 2012, making it one of the largest cultural institutions devoted to contemporary culture in Europe.
Having not known a huge amount about Chloé's past, the exhibition was a magnificent insight in to the past and present. The exhibition featured beautiful photographs of Chloé garments from over the years and then mannequins on display featuring different looks from the house over the years.

The exhibition runs from 29 september  to 18 november 2012 so you haven't got long to see it but if you happen to be in Paris I suggest you take a look!

Paris Je T'aime

Bonjour!

Yesterday I visited Paris with uni, it was my third visit to the city and unfortunately was only for the day. I totally feel you cannot do Paris justice in one day alone (I find it difficult to see Paris in 3 days let alone 1) in fact a lot of the time I felt like we were still in London!
We visited the Chloé Retrospective at the Palais De Tokyo which was a nice insight in to the famous house and all its past designers, there will be a post on this after! We then had lunch and strolled around the Louvre Palace and past the Jarden des Tuileries and Place de la Concorde then down the Champs Élysées for a look in the Louis Vuitton store.
I'm hoping I can go back next Spring for my birthday with my sister as theres still so much I want to do in Paris, it still remains one of the most beautiful cities I've ever seen.

Paris, Je'Taime

In the holidays I went to Paris with my mom (not the greatest place to go with your mom but still) for about four days. It was really lovely, but it all looked much better at night aha. It kind of surprised me when I was there as it wasn't what I was expecting, I was expecting model-like girls with gorgeous clothes and beautiful Parisian boys, my expectations were probably a little too high. The city as a whole though was beautiful and had plenty of Zara's which I have fallen in love with recently aha. I don't have many photos because I took mine on disposable and polaroid so they need to be developed yet but yeah, if you've never been to Paris, gogogo!
