Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs

"My favourite colour is shiny"

Fifteen years ago Marc Jacobs became the creative director of the house of Louis Vuitton; his work has since given the house a whole new cool and chic edge. To celebrate the partnership between Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs the Musée des Arts décoritifs held a beautiful exhibition spanning over two floors, one for each of the two innovators. As I took a trip to Paris for my birthday back in the Spring I decided to visit the exhibition, I've been a huge fan of Jacobs' work for the house for a few years now and really wanted to see them for myself! The exhibition opens with two portraits of the two men, one a drawing of Louis Vuitton from the 18 hundreds and a recent Rankin photo of Marc Jacobs. As I stated the exhibit is spread between 2 floors. The first floor focuses on the work of Louis Vuitton and the start of the brand, so we get to see gorgeous gowns from many years ago and also some of the iconic Louis Vuitton trunks.

From the second floor we can then compare how Jacobs has revolutionized the brand and made it what it is today. There are screens upon screens of both still and moving images of Jacobs’ inspiration over the years. This includes images of Barbara Streisand, David Bowie, clips from South Park, Marie Antoinette (2006), The Wizard of Oz, and Mia Farrow to name a few. A large wall is dedicated to the iconic bags quaintly in cake cases. Some of Louis Vuitton's most famous garments were presented in different window displays, some with balloon heads others with animal heads bringing out Jacobs' quirky, fun style. Opposite was a rotating cog with beautiful Louis Vuitton shoes. It’s was a beautiful exhibition perfectly illustrating the past and present of the powerful French house, moreover with the beautiful Parisian setting it couldn't be more perfect

“I’m in a position of being respectful and disrespectful. I want to do something rebellious, and also to CELEBRATE this icon.” –Marc Jacobs
